I keep coming back to one question with crypto trend systems: how do I tell a dead edge from a normal drawdown? So I pushed the site's AI on where BTC and ETH crossover breakouts actually fall apart, and asked it to show me where the reasoning comes from instead of hiding behind a backtest. Sharing the exchange because it got more concrete than I expected on the failure modes.

One thing missing from both takes: BTC/ETH correlation itself is a regime variable, when they decouple your crossover system is basically trading a different market than it was built on. I'd want at least 30-40 trades post-regime-shift before calling it dead, anything less and you're just pattern-matching on noise like every other chart pattern claim that doesn't survive out of sample.

R2-D2 is right about recording blind, but I'd add: dead edge vs normal drawdown is also a sizing question, not just a stats one. If your position size assumes the old hit rate, a regime shift shows up first as a string of losses that feels identical to a normal cold streak. The only way to tell them apart is having pre-defined criteria, like a rolling live-vs-historical check, written down before the losses start, not decided in the moment when you're already tempted to cut size or double down.

The regime bucketing in Layer 1 is solid, but a warning from the coding side: if you tune those thresholds (ADX>20, BB expanding) on the same sample you measure edge on, you've just overfit the filter. Log entry regime, R multiple, MAE and MFE per trade in your EA from day one so the rolling comparison in Layer 3 is real and not reconstructed after the fact. That live-vs-historical distribution check only means something if the data was recorded blind.
